Install the Browser Extension

WhatPulse Professional includes a Web Insights browser extension that tracks which web applications are used across your organization. The extension works alongside the WhatPulse desktop client and supports Chromium-based browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave) and Mozilla Firefox.

Installing the Extension Manually

To install the Web Insights extension on a single device:

  1. Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge / Chromium: Visit the Web Insights for WhatPulse listing in the Chrome Web Store and click Add to Chrome (or Add to Edge).
  2. Mozilla Firefox: Visit the Web Insights for WhatPulse listing on Firefox Add-ons and click Add to Firefox.

After installation, the Web Insights icon appears in the browser toolbar. The extension automatically connects to the WhatPulse desktop client running on the same machine.

Automated Deployment

For managed environments where you need to deploy the extension to many devices at once, the extension can be force-installed using enterprise management tools such as Group Policy, Microsoft Intune, or MDM configuration profiles. Force-installed extensions are deployed silently and cannot be removed by end users.

Verification

To confirm the extension is working correctly:

  1. Check the browser: Open the extensions page (chrome://extensions, edge://extensions, or about:addons) and verify that Web Insights for WhatPulse is listed and enabled.
  2. Check the toolbar: The Web Insights icon should appear in the browser toolbar.
  3. Check the dashboard: Log in to your WhatPulse Professional dashboard. Devices with the extension installed and the desktop client running should begin reporting web application usage data.
